Transportation
Washington Group International, Inc.
, Boise, Idaho, announced that Dulles Transit Partners, LLC, a Washington Group and Bechtel Infrastructure Corp. team, received a notice to proceed with development work and preliminary engineering for the first phase of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project in Northern Virginia. The first phase would extend the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority’s transit system west about 11 miles to near Reston, Va.

Philadelphia-based Urban Engineers, Inc. was selected by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to manage, direct, and coordinate four reconstruction design teams working on four, full-depth Turnpike roadway reconstruction projects. The projects extend 42 miles in Allegheny, Beaver, Chester, Lawrence, Somerset, and Westmoreland counties.

Environmental
Mactec Engineering & Consulting
, based in Alpharetta, Ga., received a contract from the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence to provide engineering services in the areas of environmental restoration, pollution prevention, environmental compliance, natural and cultural resources conservation, facility design and construction management, and comprehensive planning.

URS Corporation, San Francisco, was awarded two indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contracts to provide environmental remediation and construction services at Hill Air Force Base in Utah. URS will operate environmental remediation sites on the base or on adjoining properties under a 10-year operations and maintenance contract, and will perform environmental design/build construction under a five-year contract.

Lakeland, Fla.-based BCI Engineers & Scientists was selected by the Southwest Florida Water Management District to provide hydrologic and wetlands restoration services to 10 District tracts, including restoring typical wetland functions of water storage, recharge, water quality improvement, and wildlife habitat. Scheda Ecological Associates, based in Tampa, Fla., and Pickett & Associates, based in Bartow, Fla., also will assist with the project.

Redevelopment
North Springfield, Vt.-based Dufresne-Henry is providing construction inspection, testing, environmental monitoring, and project coordination services for a $14 million downtown redevelopment project in Winooski, Vt.

Avid Engineering, Palm Harbor, Fla., will provide planning, engineering design, and permitting for site infrastructure for redevelopment of two retail centers near Orlando, Fla.

Wastewater
The Water Environment Research Foundation awarded Kansas City, Mo.-based Black & Veatch a project to develop an integrated approach for detecting and responding to attacks at wastewater treatment plants, with emphasis on the possible introduction of chemical, biological, and radioactive contaminants.
