Thornton Tomasetti launches new community service program

New York — Thornton Tomasetti launched its community service program, TT Gives Back. Part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities in which it operates, the program was created to improve and increase volunteerism opportunities for its employees. Under this initiative, Thornton Tomasetti professionals will be able to commit more hours than previously possible and receive additional support for volunteering. The program also groups all of Thornton Tomasetti’s community service initiatives under one umbrella.

The program consists of three different areas of service:

Increasing volunteerism in the communities in which we live and work. Employees will have double the number of paid hours – now 16 – to use for volunteer days to perform community service.

Sharing our expertise with the most disadvantaged. Thornton Tomasetti will support at least one international service project each year for a multi-office team to travel to assist disadvantaged communities, in collaboration with an international community service organization. In 2018, Thornton Tomasetti is partnering with Bridges to Prosperity to build a suspension bridge in Nicaragua.

Giving back to the next generation of AEC professionals. The firm will continue its tradition of supporting STEM education through the ACE Mentor Program, and will increase staff engagement in ACE.

Building and improving communities is at the core of the new program. It was developed to benefit all who are involved, providing a variety of volunteering opportunities to meet the diverse interests of the firm’s employees as well as emphasizing team building among colleagues. The program also aims to build leadership skills, increase the firm’s volunteerism rate and social impact, contribute to employee satisfaction and provide new opportunities for business development.

“The TT Gives Back program builds on the firm’s long history of supporting our communities and provides additional service opportunities to our professionals who are passionate about sharing their skills and expertise with those in need,” Amy Hattan, Thornton Tomasetti’s vice president of corporate sustainability, said. “With more paid time available for volunteerism and new opportunities for international community development projects, we are investing in making a lasting impact on our communities and the world.”
