Redwood City, Calif., to extend recycled water distribution pipelines

Redwood City, Calif. – The City of Redwood City proposes to extend its existing recycled water distribution system from the Bayfront area of Redwood City into Central Redwood City. This water reuse project creates new, reliable, drought-proof water supplies.

The project will connect 2.5 miles of new recycled water pipelines to the existing recycled water pipeline and serve landscape irrigation demands at parks, streetscapes and medians, and for various indoor uses (e.g., toilet and urinal flushing, make-up water in cooling towers, and commercial laundry) in both new buildings and existing buildings located in Central Redwood City.

The project falls under Reclamation’s Water Reclamation and Reuse Program, as authorized by the Reclamation Wastewater and Groundwater Study and Facilities Act of 1992, or Title XVI of Public Law 102-575, as amended (Title XVI).

Reclamation prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) to disclose potential environmental effects and solicit public comment on the proposed project, which must be completed before construction can begin in order for the project to be eligible to receive federal funding.
