TRANSPORTATION
HDR was selected to provide design development/conceptual and preliminary engineering services for the North Corridor of the Houston METRO Solutions plan. North Corridor is one of five planned extensions to be added to Houston’s light rail system. It presently is proposed as a light rail transit and guided rapid transit system.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation selected a team led by Urban Engineers, Inc., for construction management of a $165 million project widening and reconstructing a 6.3-mile section of U.S. 202 in Chester County. The current four-lane, expressway will be widened to six lanes.

URS Corporation was awarded a contract by the Washington Department of Transportation to provide engineering design and environmental permitting services for widening a 5-mile section of I-90 east of Snoqualmie Pass. The firm’s design services on the $387 million project include realignment of the roadway, development of avalanche mitigation measures, and design of measures to allow wildlife to cross the freeway safely.

Otak Inc. will help Medford, Ore., officials determine improvements to Foothill Rd., a corridor for commuters and recreational bicyclists, by analyzing traffic demand and intersection treatment at all major intersections. In the second phase of the project, Otak will create preliminary engineering drawings for the corridor, including storm drain and water quality facilities.

MACTEC Engineering & Consulting was awarded a contract by the city of Woodstock, Ga., for concept design services to develop major roadway improvements. The project involves roadway widening from a two-lane to a proposed four-lane road with several intersection improvements, and corridor upgrades and streetscape design for the section of the road through downtown Woodstock.

Dexter Regional Airport Committee and Augusta Regional Airport selected Stantec Consulting Services, Inc., to provide aviation consulting services at the airports for the next five years. At Augusta, Stantec will develop a business plan, design various infrastructure improvements, and assess the airport’s runway safety areas, among other projects. Dexter’s officials initially plan to use Stantec’s services to complete a runway reconstruction.

ENVIRONMENT
Weston Solutions, Inc., was awarded a Superfund Technical Assessment & Response Team contract with a programmatic maximum value of $168 million to perform work in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6, which encompasses New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Work may include scientific/technical support to EPA On-Scene Coordinators, site assessment, brownfields, and emergency response and removal support activities.
