Modjeski and Masters appoints new CEO

Mechanicsburg, Pa. — Modjeski and Masters announced the promotion of Michael Britt to CEO, effective immediately. The appointment comes shortly after Dr. Barney Martin Jr., retiring CEO, announced his transition into an advisory role at the end of 2017.

Britt, who was promoted to President in 2017, will be responsible for executing the firm’s strategic direction, safeguarding long-term success and guiding complex projects at a managerial and technical level. Dr. Barney Martin, who formerly filled the role of CEO, will continue involvement with the firm as Board Member Emeritus and Senior Technical Advisor.

“I’ve always been honored to be part of Modjeski and Masters, and I’m humbled that the Board of Directors has elected me to this position,” said Britt. “With the continued support and guidance of the Board and staff, I am confident we will meet the challenges ahead of us and continue along the path laid out by our Chairman, Dr. Zolan Prucz, and retiring CEO, Dr. Barney Martin”

Britt began his career with Modjeski and Masters in 1979 as a co-op student while attending Drexel University. Britt briefly left Modjeski and Masters in 1989 to serve as the Assistant Division Bridge Engineer in the Pennsylvania Division of the Federal Highway Administration. Upon being hired back full-time, he served as Director of Business Development for several years before being promoted to Associate in 1997. In his most recent role, he served as President and Chief Marketing Officer.

“It has been a great privilege to work alongside Mike over the course of my career,” said Dr. Martin, “He brings to the table a high level of expertise and willingness to build on the firm’s long and rich history while always looking for ways to innovate. I am very confident that under his leadership, the firm will continue to excel in all of its endeavors.”

In his time at Modjeski and Masters, Britt has served critical roles with marquee clients including the Detroit International Bridge Company, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the Delaware River Port Authority, and the District (Washington, DC) Department of Transportation.
