H2M architects + engineers awards six STEM scholarships

Melville, N.Y. — On June 29 in the top floor main conference room, filled with proud parents and students, H2M architects + engineers CEO and President Rich Humann, P.E. awarded six H2M architects + engineers STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, or Math) Scholarships.

There were 120 applications for the six 2017 annual H2M architects + engineers STEM Scholarships.  The H2M architects + engineers STEM Scholarship is awarded based on merit and character to six graduating seniors who plan to attend college and enroll in a science, environmental engineering, architecture, planning, landscape architecture and land surveying.

“H2M is committed to supporting the next generation of technical professionals, and we feel an obligation to steward the future leaders of our industry,” Humann said. “This event is among my favorites representing H2M in this generous and supportive role.”

H2M has a clear philosophy of giving back to the communities we service which extends far beyond the job site.  It is a philosophy of encouraging our youth to pursue their dreams. Nothing is impossible if the work ethic and desire is present. Dreams of working in our dynamic industry was clearly the theme that evening.  The lite up faces of the recipients and the understandably proud glow from the parents, family and friends along with the H2M team members that assisted in the scholarship selection set the energized mood during the celebration.

This was the second year H2M held this ceremony in their Corporate Headquarters in Melville. Once again had the honor of the presence of Suffolk County Legislator Monica Martinez who delivered an impassioned speech to the attendees.  Encouraging each one in the room to pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacle. Praising their parents, family and friends for their support of their scholarship winners and praising H2M architects + engineers for having vision that the future leaders are young adults like these scholarship winners.  The legislator continued to say that she hoped more firms would follow H2M and invest in the future.

Along with the Scholarships awarded were Proclamations, Certificates, and Citations from each student’s local, state and federal government representatives:  United States Congressman Lee Zeldin, NY Senator John Flanagan, NY Senator Phil Boyle, NY Senator Phillips, NY Assemblyman Al Graf, NY Assemblyman Ramos, NY Assemblyman Montesano, NY Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Legislator Trotta, Suffolk County Legislator Monica Martinez, Suffolk County Legislator Leslie Kennedy, Supervisor Ed Romaine, Supervisor Bob Vecchio, Supervisor Rich Schaefer and Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
