Freese and Nichols opens office in Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C. — Freese and Nichols, Inc. continues to grow in North Carolina with the opening of a Charlotte office. This additional investment in the region expands the firm’s services to local governments across the state and enhances the capabilities of its three existing offices in North Carolina.

The office was launched with the addition of Ed Dickson, a water resources and stormwater engineer who is nationally recognized for his floodplain modeling and mapping work. He provides a diverse 20 years of experience in the Charlotte market that includes construction materials testing, land development, and stormwater and floodplain modeling efforts. He specializes in directing watershed-based hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, mapping and reviews for Federal Emergency Management Agency flood studies across the United States.

“This is another step in our strategic plan to continue to grow in North Carolina and beyond,” said Mike Wayts, North Carolina division manager. “Bringing Ed on board in a new Charlotte office allows us to better serve our clients in the local area while expanding our service offerings to the entire state.”

Freese and Nichols provides public clients a wide range of planning and design services, including stormwater management, environmental science, construction services, program management, and water and wastewater utilities. It has more than two dozen professionals in its four North Carolina offices — Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston-Salem and now, Charlotte — backed by a staff of 750 nationwide.

Freese and Nichols has led a variety of projects in the Charlotte region, including:

• Completing a Central Park Stream Restoration and Planning Study for the Town of Cramerton
• Guiding the City of Hickory in paring and prioritizing $80 million in projects to its $40 million authorized in the City’s 2014 bond program election
• Designing wastewater treatment plant improvements for the City of Morganton
• Developing a stormwater capital improvement plan and database for the City of Salisbury and utility projects at the water treatment plant and a waterline design
