First Crystal Lagoons amenity in Texas opens Aug. 23

Houston — On August 23, Crystal Lagoons and the Balmoral community in Humble celebrate the grand opening of the first man-made, crystalline lagoon in Texas, which is one of a growing portfolio of paradise-like lagoons currently under development nationwide. This project just northeast of Houston marks the second such man-made lagoon to open in the U.S.

Crystal Lagoons already has 21 deals across the nation – including four others in Texas, plus over 60 more that are currently in active negotiations. Two of those planned Texas projects are with Land Tejas, the developer of Balmoral. To date worldwide, 600 man-made, crystalline lagoons have been completed, started or planned by Crystal Lagoons.

During the August 23 grand opening festivities, Crystal Lagoons official global ambassador and swimming champion Michael Phelps will make a special guest appearance, along with a bevy of aquatic performers. Crystal Lagoons and Phelps are partnering to advance their shared vision of bringing swimming and other water sports activities to communities around the world.

The 2-acre, turquoise lagoon at Balmoral, which employs a patented, high-tech process allowing for use of 100 times fewer chemicals and 50 times less energy than a traditional pool, is a signature feature of Land Tejas’ new community. The idyllic lagoon is up to 8 feet deep and the size of almost two football fields, or over six Olympic swimming pools. It also features a kids’ cove and two different white sand beaches, including a family beach with cabanas and lounge chairs, and a serenity beach that offers beach volleyball.

“We are excited to open our very first crystalline lagoon in Texas, as just one of many spectacular, tropical-style aquatic amenities we expect to develop across the state,” said Kevin P. Morgan, executive vice president of Crystal Lagoons U.S. Corp. “Within the next few years, Texas will be our leading U.S. market. Our projects represent the future of outdoor lifestyle amenities, while also bringing enormous value to real estate projects such as Balmoral.

“Beyond residential projects such as Balmoral,” Morgan added, “we are also seeing a significant increase in demand for our Public Access Lagoon concept across the U.S., which has particularly powerful applications in retail environments such as shopping centers and big box stores, as well as in municipal public parks and distressed golf courses.”

When Balmoral’s crystal turquoise lagoon opens for use by residents in September, it will be the centerpiece of the community’s $13 million, 8-acre amenity village. Overlooking the new lagoon is a dramatic infinity-edge pool, while other amenities for guests’ enjoyment include an impressive clubhouse, food truck courtyard, hammock park, sand volleyball court, playground and splash pad.

“Land Tejas has always been a market innovator, delivering first-class amenities to our residents,” said Al Brende, owner and co-founder of Land Tejas. “Our partnership with Crystal Lagoons is taking us to new frontiers, bringing beach life, aquatic sports and tropical lagoons to select Land Tejas communities.”

The second Texas lagoon paradise from Crystal Lagoons is currently under construction at Windsong Ranch in Prosper, north of Dallas, with a spring 2019 opening anticipated. The first crystalline lagoon developed in the U.S. opened at the Epperson community outside of Tampa, Florida, earlier this year, featuring a 7.5-acre tropical-style lagoon. A second Florida Crystal Lagoons amenity is opening soon at Twin Creeks Development’s Beachwalk community south of Jacksonville, featuring an impressive 14-acre crystalline lagoon surrounded by a dynamic live, work and play community. Another prominent U.S. project currently in the pipeline for Crystal Lagoons is a massive, 25-acre lagoon paradise for Wynn Resorts located on the iconic Las Vegas Strip.

The 580-acre, master-planned Balmoral community is located east of Highway 59 and a half-mile north of Beltway 8 in the Summerwood/Lakeshore area. More information is available at www.balmoralhouston.com.
