Arcadis, SCAPE, and Public Sediment Team selected to design Alameda Creek

San Francisco — Public Sediment, a multidisciplinary resilience team that includes Arcadis, announced that the team’s Alameda Creek resilience concept for San Francisco Bay has been selected for further study by Resilient by Design.

After months of early research and exploration, learning from communities throughout the Bay Area and collaborating with local and global design experts, the team will join with Alameda County to develop proposals for unlocking the sediment flows of Alameda Creek to the bay in helping regenerate its protective ecological infrastructure, which in turn can protect the bay from sea-level rise. Proposals for the next phase of the challenge are expected mid-May.

Public Sediment is one of 10 teams selected to take part in the Resilient by Design’s Bay Area Challenge. The team is led by SCAPE Landscape Architecture and includes Arcadis, Dredge Research Collaborative, TS Studio, the UC Davis Department of Human Ecology and Design, the UC Davis Center for Watershed Sciences, and Buoyant Ecologies Lab.

The Bay Area Challenge is a year-long collaborative research and design project that develops 10 innovative community-based solutions by engineers, architects, designers and other local and international experts to strengthen the Bay Area’s resilience to sea-level rise, severe storms, flooding and earthquakes.
