2018 IDEAS2 building design awards call for entries open

Chicago — Architectural and engineering firms, structural steel companies, general contractors and owners are encouraged to enter their steel-framed building projects in the 2018 Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel (IDEAS²) Awards competition. Conducted annually by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the awards recognize excellence and innovation in engineering and architecture on structural steel projects across the U.S. In existence for more than half a century, the award is the highest honor bestowed on building projects by the structural steel industry in the U.S.

“The IDEAS² Awards recognize the projects, designers, and constructors who best show their innovative and progressive ideas and the versatility, utility, and beauty a steel solution brings,” said Charles J. Carter, SE, PE, PhD, AISC’s president. “We look forward to another year of amazing entries.”

Projects selected to receive the IDEAS² Award will be announced during NASCC: The Steel Conference in Baltimore, April 11-13, 2018. AISC presents awards to the entering firm, as well as to the principal members of the project team at ceremonies conducted during the year at each of the winning project locations.

The competition is open to all building types, sizes and costs, as long as the structural system is steel (wide-flange shapes or hollow structural sections) and the project is located in the U.S. There is also a category for sculptures, art installations and non-building structures. Projects must have been completed between 2015 and the end of 2017.
